Who is Canada’s Top Amateur Pilot?
The Webster Memorial Trophy Competition will tell the tale
Delta, British Columbia, August 18-22, 2015
J. Goss + Associates is a proud supporter of the Webster Memorial Trophy Competition. Amateur pilots aspiring to a career in aviation are happy to compete in the Webster, one of Canada’s most prestigious aviation events. Like our friends at Aerographics Creative Services, the designer of the poster, we look forward to meeting Canada's top amateur pilot in Delta in August.
The Webster Memorial Trophy Competition
John Webster lost his life in an aircraft accident at St. Hubert, Quebec, while practicing to represent Canada in an aerobatic flying competition The Trans-Canada Air Pageant. In July, 1931, a month before his death, John had represented Canada in his Curtiss-Reid Rambler in the King’s Cup Air Race in England. The Webster Memorial Trophy Competition was established in 1932 Dr. J. C. Webster of Shediac, New Brunswick, who wished to perpetuate the memory of his son.
The Webster Memorial Trophy Competition is an annual event committed to finding the “Top Amateur Pilot in Canada”. It is sponsored by Air Canada - Flight Operations and contributed to by numerous companies and organizations from the aviation sector.

Media monitoring, Testing the new FPInfomart platform. Liked the old one.
We are currently testing the new media monitoring platform available from FP Infomart. The old platform is fantastic but is scheduled for shutdown at the end of the month. The old platform covers most major Canadian print outlets and some key broadcasts like CTV National News Broadcast News, and the World Report on CBC Radio.
Its database houses many of Canada's community papers and a few thousand blogs.
We like the old system because it is reasonably priced, nimble and the backbone of our media monitoring business.
J. Goss + Associates uses Infomart for:
1) producing morning reports on media coverage of our clients and their issues;
2) live monitoring of media websites and commercial newswires;
3) quick overviews of individuals, organizations and issues;
4) keeping track of journalists; and
5) measuring the reach and earned media value of communications projects.
With Infomart we can guarantee that every story about our clients whether printed in the Toronto Star or the Reston Recorder is reviewed and flagged when significant. It will take a while to figure out the new system but I will report on it soon.
In the meantime, if you have questions about media monitoring please call:

Campaign builds for Community Benefits Agreement in Metrolinx $4.6 b LRT contract
Media Release: April 24, 2013
(Toronto) Community leaders in Toronto are mobilizing to advocate for a legally binding Community Benefits Agreement as part of the $4.6 billion contract to be awarded by Metrolinx for the construction of the Eglinton Crosstown and Scarborough Light Rapid Transit lines. The tender call is expected to be issued within 90 days.
A Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) would require contractors to direct job recruitment, skills training and procurement to historically disadvantaged communities and populations and would ensure investments are made to support clean and healthy local environments. The CBA model for large public infrastructure projects has been implemented successfully in cities around the world and is now coming to Toronto.

Media Release, Canada's top amateur pilots to get job interviews with Air Canada

(Ottawa April 19, 2013) -- Capt. Rick Allen, Senior Director Flight Operations at Air Canada (TSE:AC:B) today confirmed job interviews will be given to all 9 finalist in the Webster Memorial Trophy Competition.
"This new, additional support from Air Canada is a tremendous boost to Canada's top amateur pilot contest and a great incentive for our young competitors," says Amy Foy, National Administrator.
Foy notes the offering of a job interview does not guarantee a position with the company.
Established in 1932, this year's Webster Memorial Trophy Competition will take place in Winnipeg on Aug. 19-24. Many amateur pilots have already entered the competition. The entry deadline is June 1.

On the one-year anniversary of #TellVicEverything it’s time for pro-privacy commitment from the government:
Today, February 16, 2013 marks the one-year anniversary of the #TellVicEverything Twitter campaign, which went viral and saw thousands of Canadians creatively and successfully voicing their opposition to the government's controversial online spying Bill C-30.
Almost one year later, on February 11, 2013, we saw a huge victory when the government bowed to pressure from nearly 150,000 Canadians and shelved Bill C-30 with its "Lawful Access" provision. The measure would have allowed authorities to search the internet service provider records of individual Canadians without having to persuade a judge there is a good reason to do so.

Consumers push for shorter-term wireless contracts
Rita Trichur, The Globe and Mail, Don’t ‘grandfather’ old telecom contracts
“There should be no ‘grandfathering’ of old contracts when the code comes into force,” said PIAC’s executive director John Lawford, adding the code itself should be enacted as soon as “reasonably” possible.
"The applicability of the code to existing contracts is shaping up to be one of the most contentious issues of these hearings. Major carriers have long argued that applying the code retroactively would be largely unmanageable," The Globe and Mail reported on Feb. 11.
